Chet Diemer really sizzled at the plate today. In a game played at Sounds Fields, the Nashville second baseman blistered the Iowa Cubs for 5 hits in 6 at-bats to pace his club to a 16-2 victory.
"Diemer was too tough to get out today," the Cubs skipper said in his postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."
C. Diemer doubled in the 2nd, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off T. Brown in the 9th.
For the year Diemer is batting .240 with 43 hits and 2 home runs. He has scored 24 times and driven in 13.

"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus. He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."
And that's what Adam Cheng did as he led the Rainiers to a 14-0 shutout victory over the Cubs.
"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," the Iowa manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
Cheng yielded 2 hits and had 11 strikeouts and 2 walks in a standout performance.
This year Cheng has no relief appearances with no saves, 3-1 season record and a 3.81 ERA. He has hurled 59 innings, given up 47 hits, struck out 62 and walked 20. Opposing clubs have batted .214 against the Tacoma reliever.
