Frank Thomas hit a 2-run home run to give Boston a lead. But in the 7th, Oakland fought back. Robin Yount led off the inning with a solo homer, Hank Greenberg singled, and George Brett walked before Joe DiMaggio hit an RBI single to tie the game. Reggie Jackson led off the next inning with a solo homer to put the Jacks ahead 3-2. Jim Kaat allowed just 2 runs on 7 hits in 8 innings, and Mariano Rivera picked up his 8th save. Lou Gehrig made things interesting with a 2-out pinch-hit triple, but Tony Oliva flew out to end the game. The win completed a 5-game sweep of the Splinters to end the season.
