Jos\u00e9 Fern\u00e1ndez had a rough start for Miami, allowing 7 runs in 6 innings, but the Marlins never quit. Two-run home runs by Cliff Floyd and Gary Sheffield, kept them close. Back-to-back RBI base hits by Luis Castillo and Miguel Cabrera in the 9th, but the Homestead lead to 7-6. In the 8th, Giancarlo Stanton doubled with 2 out. Louis Dula walked Juan Pierre, and Iv\u00e1n Rodr\u00edguez hit a 3-run homer to give the Marlins the lead. Buck Leonard doubled to put the tying run on 2nd in the 9th with one out, but Armando Ben\u00edtez got Jud Wilson and Vic Harris to ground out to Carlos Delgado to end the game. It was the 2nd save for Ben\u00edtez.
