That left the door open for a Tampa Bay Rays upset of the Cleveland Indians in the Baseball Maelstrom Tournament. But Tris Speaker did his part to make sure that didn&#8217;t happen. With some timely hits, Cleveland scored a run in 3 of the first 4 innings off Alex Cobb, including an RBI single from Speaker in the 4th. But a Jim Thome error in the 8th led to a Sacrifice Fly by Ben Zobrist off Michael Jackson that tied the score at 3. J.P. Howell, who had pitched a perfect 7th for the Rays, allowed a leadoff single to Manny Ram\u00edrez and then walked Albert Belle. Rafael Soriano came in, but allowed an RBI single to Nap Lajoie for the go-ahead run. Two batters later, Speaker drove in two more with another single. Jos\u00e9 Mesa closed the door in the 9th and Cleveland took the game 6-3, eliminating the Rays from the Tournament.
