For 4 innings, Don Sutton held the Houston Hoots hitless. It looked like they were on their way to their 5th loss. But that all changed in the 5th when 9 straight batters reached base en route to a 9-run inning. Hank Aaron got the Hoots on the board with a 3-run homer. Aaron would also drive in another run later in the inning with an RBI single. The Los Angeles Dynamos’ Pete Alexander allowed just 3 hits the rest of the game. Bob Gibson picked up his 2nd win, holding LA to 2 runs on 8 hits, despite just 2 strikeouts. Cristóbal Torriente drove in both Dynamo runs. Before this game, Sutton hadn’t allowed more than 3 runs in any start. The win snapped Houston’s 4-game losing streak. They’re now 7-12. Los Angeles fell to 8-11.
