Coming off a shutout, Juan Marichal continued his dominance of National League hitters. This time, Marichal allowed just 5 hits in a complete game 8-2 win against the St. Louis Wizards. Solo home runs by Larry Walker and Duke Snider were the only two runs allowed. Marichal also finished with 8 strike outs. St. Louis starter Greg Maddux had another tough outing, allowing a couple of sacrifice flies and a 2-run double to Jeff Bagwell. Maddux exited after 4 innings due to some tightness in his pitching arm. Dizzy Dean didn’t fare much better, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits in 4 innings of relief. The win improved Marichal to 3-1 with a league-leading 1.29 ERA. Houston is 11-6, and has expanded their lead to 2 1/2 games in the National League.
