Perry Gets Splinters Back to Winning Ways

Gaylord Perry took a 3-hit shutout into the 9th as the Boston Splinters topped the Detroit Rockets 7-1 one day after Detroit ended Boston’s 6-game winning streak. Kenny Lofton led off the game for the Rockets against Perry with a single. Lofton then had another single in the 3rd. After that, Perry retired 18 straight hitters. With 2-outs in the 9th, Detroit finally put together 3 straight singles, and Miguel Cabrera drove in a run to ruin the shutout. Roger Clemens was a late scratch for the Rockets. Dave Stieb allowed 6 runs on 12 hits in 7 innings in his place. Tris Speaker drove in 4 runs with a double and a triple to lead the Boston offense. Mule Suttles went 3 for 5 with his 1st home run since joining the league.
