Lefty Grove cruised to a shutout win, holding the Detroit Rockets to 7 hits and a walk while striking out 7. The only threat came in the 4th inning when Detroit loaded the bases with three straight 2-out singles. But Grove got Bobby Grich to pop out to end the inning. Edgar MartÃnez drove in Josh Gibson with a single in the 2nd off Frank Tanana. Jimmie Foxx drove in another run in the 6th. After Joe Gordon led off the 7th with a solo home run, Rickey Henderson scored on a groundout to 1st later in the inning. Tanana allowed 8 hits and struck out 6 in a complete game loss. The win broke Oakland’s 4-game losing streak. Meanwhile, Detroit has now lost 3 in a row.
