DiMaggio’s Extra Inning Homer Ends Splinters’ 7-game Win Streak

Boston starter Gaylord Perry did his share to put Boston in a position to win their 8th straight, allowing just one earned run in 8 innings of work for the Splinters. But Red Ruffing left one in the zone that Joe DiMaggio drove into the stands to give the Oakland Jacks a 5-3 win in 10 innings. Mariano Rivera pitched a scoreless inning to pick up his 1st save of the season. It was Perry’s 3rd straight quality start for Boston, showing that he deserves the ace spot on the staff.
