LA Rides Winfield’s HR and Maddux’s Arm

Dave Winfield hit a 2-run homer in the 1st inning to give the Los Angeles Dynamos a lead over the Chicago Docs they would never give up. Johnnys Mize and Bench added 2-out RBI hits in the 4th and Tony Perez hit a solo shot in the 6th to give LA the rest of their offense with the only 4 hits that Chicago’s Jerry Koosman would allow, handing him his 2nd loss in as many starts. Meanwhile, LA’s Greg Maddux kept Docs hitters off balance. An uncharacteristic bases-loaded walk in the 8th would be the only run Chicago could muster off him. Goose Gossage picked up his 2nd save of the season as LA improved to 4-3.
