The Chicago Docs took a 3-0 lead, led by Orel Hershiser, into the 6th inning. But Keith Hernandez’s 1st error of the season led to a 3-run inning for the Houston Hoots. Willie Stargell hit a solo home run off Docs reliever Roy Oswalt in the 7th to give the Hoots a 4-3 lead they wouldn’t give up. Randy Johnson struck out a season-high 13, allowing just 3 hits in 8 innings to improve to 3-2. Houston is now 18-21. Chicago has now lost 7 straight and fell to 11-28. Lee Smith picked up his 12th save, getting pinch-hitter Albert Pujols to ground into a double-play to end the game.
