Carlton Drops Docs, 2nd Straight Shutout

The St. Louis Wizards look ready for the World Series. Steve Carlton allowed 7 hits while striking out 11, shutting out the Chicago Docs for the Wizards’ 35th win. It was not only Carlton’s 2nd straight shutout but the 2nd time this season he’s held teams scoreless in back-to-back starts. Meanwhile, the Wizards’ offense destroyed Curt Schilling in his final start of the season. Schilling allowed 11 runs on 16 hits in 5 1/3 innings. Willie McCovey was 3 for 5 with a homer and 5 RBI. Oscar Charleston and Larry Walker also homered. Schilling ends the season 4-5 with a 7.16 ERA and leads the Maelstrom in home runs allowed with 23. The Wizards earned home-field advantage in the World Series when the Detroit Rockets lost earlier in the day.
