Baines Homers Twice, Swats Top Rockets in Final Game

Harold Baines hit two home runs, doubling his season total, and the Chicago Docs feasted on Dave Stieb and Urban Shocker, topping the Detroit Rockets 11-6 in the final game of the regular season. Stieb was hoping to show the team he deserved a spot in the World Series rotation but allowed 6 runs on 9 hits and 6 walks in his 7 innings of work. Even so, the game was close until Shocker allowed another 5 runs in the 8th. Baines finished 3 for 4 with 4 RBI. Bob Lemon wasn’t great for the Docs, but did well enough to improve to 3-6. Lemon allowed 5 runs on 7 hits in 7 innings. The Swats finish the season a disappointing 23-31. The Rockets now head to the World Series.
