Relentless Dodgers Eliminate Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers jumped out early against Gaylord Perry and the San Diego Padres, with 4 runs on 9 hits in the 1st two innings. Gary Sheffield did his part to keep it close, hitting a grand slam in the 3rd off Sandy Koufax to briefly give San Diego the lead. But Jackie Robinson tied the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning. Then, Matt Kemp hit a go-ahead solo home run in the 5th and another solo shot in the 7th for some insurance. Eric Gagné struck out all 3 hitters he faced in the 9th for his 3rd save, eliminating the Padres from the Tournament with the 8-6 win. Sheffield finished 3 for 4 with 5 RBI for the Padres. Kemp was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI for Los Angeles. Perry finished with 13 hits and 6 earned runs in 5 innings. Koufax picked up his 2nd win, allowing 7 hits and 5 earned runs in 6 innings of work.
