Nolan Ryan improved to 3-0, allowing just 6 hits and 2 runs while striking out 9 to top the Detroit Rockets 7-2. Hank Greenberg hit a 3-run home run off David Cone in the 2nd inning that proved to be the difference. Cone allowed 4 runs on 6 hits in 7 innings. Eddie Collins added a 2-run triple in the 8th off Luis Tiant. Oakland won despite Reggie Jackson and Lou Gehrig being on the bench. Both players are expected to return to the lineup tomorrow. Tony Oliva was 2 for 5 in his 1st start, while Jim Rice was 1 for 5 with 2 RBI. The Rockets started the season hot, but are now 6-7.
