Los Angeles Dynamos starter, Tom Seaver, made one mistake, and Mike Schmidt took him deep for a 2-run home run in the 2nd inning. Seaver would finish with a complete game, allowing 8 hits while striking out 11. But he also picked up his 2nd loss of the season, as the St. Louis Wizards topped LA 2-1. Steve Carlton was just as good, allowing 7 hits and striking out 6. The sole Wizards run came on a Hank Aaron solo homer. Aaron came to the plate in the 9th with 2 men on and 2 outs, but Rich Gossage came in and struck him out to end the game. Aaron finished 3 for 4. The Wizards have now won 5 straight after a slow start to get to 6-6. Despite a 1.82 ERA, Carton is just 2-2.
