Splinters Destroy Jacks, Set New Run Record

The first three Oakland Jacks hitters of the game scored in the 1st inning, but by the end of the 3rd, they lost their lead and never had a chance of getting it back. Charlie Gehringer hit a grand slam off Oakland starter Jack Morris to put Boston up 7-4. Robin Yount and Minnie Miñoso hit back-to-back homers in the 4th off Boston’s Dennis Eckersley to trim the lead to one, but Boston hit 3 more homers in the 5th to chase Morris, including Gehringer’s 2nd of the game and their own back-to-back homers from Tony Oliva and Ted Williams. Boston batted around in the 6th against Ted Lyons, putting up 7 more runs to put the game well out of reach, eventually winning 19-9, setting a new single-game run record. Gehringer and Williams both ended the game 3 for 4 with 2 HR. Boston improved to 8-2, winning their 7th straight. The Jacks fall to 4-6.
