Recap

Oakland Batters Faber, Top Swats 12-5

New York Swats starter Red Faber had another rough start, allowing 12 hits and 9 runs in just 4 innings in a 12-5 loss to the Oakland Jacks. Reggie Jackson and Joe Dimaggio hit back-to-back homers in the 1st for two of Oakland’s five homeruns off Faber, and Dimaggio hit his 2nd homer of the game in the 3rd. It was Hank Greenberg’s 2-run shot in the 5th that was the last straw as fans at the Polo Grounds let their boos express their disapproval with the pitcher who led the rotation on Opening Day. It could have been worse, as Oakland had two runners thrown out at the plate. One bright spot for New York was that Ty Cobb broke out of a slump, going 3 for 4 with a walk and a homerun, improving his average to just .148. Bert Blyleven improved to 2-0 for the Jacks, allowing 5 runs over 7 innings. Oakland is 3-4 this season.
