Sutton 2nd Start Stellar, Niekro’s Knuckler Not
Don Sutton picked up his 1st win of the season, taking a 3-hit shutout into the 9th, and the LA Dynamos gave the Houston Hoots their 7th straight loss. Sutton ended with 11 Ks and a complete game victory. The Hoots’ Phil Niekro kept Los Angeles hitters off balance but had trouble spotting his knuckler in the 5th. That was the inning that the Dynamos batted around. Willie Mays and Johnny Mize hit back-to-back homers, giving Mize his 2nd homerun of the game, and Frank Robinson hit a 3-run shot to end Niekro’s night as LA put up 9 runs. The Dynamos improved to 5-4 with the 11-1 win.
