Wizards Get to Johnson, Hold On Against Hoots to Move to 7-1

Randy Johnson pitched out of a bases-loaded no-out jam in the 3rd and took a 3-0 lead into the 5th, giving the Houston Hoots hope that they could pick up just their 2nd win this season. The St. Louis Wizards had other plans. Stan Musial hit a 3-run homer in the 5th and a solo shot to lead off the 7th to chase Johnson and dash Hoots hopes. Gary Carter hit a solo shot for Houston in the 8th to make the score 5-4, but Fergie Jenkins and Bruce Sutter retired the next 5 batters to improve St. Louis to 7-1. Houston fell to 1-7 and have lost 6 straight. Carl Hubbell picked up his 2nd win for the Wizards, and Sutter picked up his league-leading 4th save.
