Because of a St. Louis Wizards win today, the Chicago Docs were likely eliminated from post-season contention. That didn’t stop them from ending their 7-game losing streak in dramatic fashion against the Houston Hoots. Starter Jerry Koosman allowed 3 runs on 9 hits over 7 1/3 inning. Houston starter Bob Gibson took a shutout into the 8th when Albert Pujols hit a bases-loaded triple to tie the game. Dizzy Dean got 2 quick outs in the 9th, when the Docs’ Buster Posey singled and Todd Helton walked. Troy Tulowitzki followed with a 3-run walk-off homer. Chicago improved to 12-28, while Houston fell to 18-22.
