While it’s been a disappointing year for the Oakland Jacks and Reggie Jackson, they topped the Boston Splinters 5-2 and are a game away from a 4-game series sweep to end the season. Mike Mussina allowed just 2 runs in 7 innings, and Jackson hit his 10th home run of the season, a 3-run shot in the 5th off Boston tough-luck starter Pedro Martínez. Martínez is now just 3-2 despite an ERA of 2.51. Jackson’s homer was just the 2nd hit allowed in the game by the Boston starter. Jackson is batting just .189 for Oakland this season. Mariano Rivera pitched two scoreless innings to pick up his 7th save. The loss is the 5th straight for the Splinters. The teams will finish the season tomorrow.
