| Breaking News |  | Saturday, May 4th, 2024: Cornejo Day-to-Day with Injury
Chicago (N) team officials speculated whether star left fielder Kevin Cornejo would be scratched from today's ballgame after he suffered bruised ribs in yesterday's matchup with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Cornejo denied reports that he would miss a lot of time, but added that he would not risk further injury by playing.
This year Cornejo is hitting .266 with 2 home runs and 9 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .383 clip and scored 17 runs.

The Pitcher of the Month has been chosen and the National League trophy went to Chicago (N) hurler, Thomas McDonald.
During the month, McDonald was impressive with a 2.38 ERA and 5 wins and 1 loss. In 45.1 innings he struck out 37 and gave up 34 hits and 7 walks.

Cincinnati starter Walter *Johnson* really did a number on the Cubs today, shutting them out 3-0 on 6 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 2 walks and had 7 strikeouts.
In his postgame comments, the Chicago (N) manager said, "We didn't have good at-bats. I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting... seeing as our team has a bunch of pretty good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Walter... he did an outstanding job today."
This season *Johnson* has gone 3-3 with an ERA of 2.89, posting 40 strikeouts in 53 innings.
