| | Tuesday, September 10th, 2024: *Delahanty* Hits for the Cycle by the Numbers Ed *Delahanty* of the New York (N) Mets had an amazing day at the plate today in a game against St. Louis. Fans at The New Polo Grounds were treated to a hitting spectacle as he hit for the cycle. Yes -- the cycle -- one of baseball's rarest feats and spectator treats.
The New York (N) left fielder hit them all! The single, double, triple and homerun came during his 5 at-bats as the Mets downed the Yankees 14-6.
Not many players can lay claim to hitting the cycle during their baseball careers, but Steve Link can proudly say he was one of them.
"Words can't describe the feeling I have," he said. "I would like to say it was skill, but I would be more inclined to say it was some luck, too. Triples are hard to come by."
*Delahanty* finished the day with 4 in 5 tries and raised his batting average a few points to .800. He also had 4 RBI and 2 runs scored.
E. *Delahanty* hit a two-run home run off R. Morgan in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a two-run triple in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.
Thus far this year *Delahanty* is batting .390 with 7 home runs, 91 RBIs and 121 runs scored. | | Friday, August 30th, 2024: Cornejo Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits "Ever since I picked up my first bat my coaches were always saying to keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing... just make contact and ya never know what'll happen," Chicago (N)'s Kevin Cornejo told reporters after the game. "That's all I did today. I made contact and it turned out well."
It definitely turn out well for Cornejo today as he collected 5 hits in 7 at-bats against St. Louis. It turned out well for his team, too, as the Cubs knocked off the Cardinals 10-7 at Caray Field.
K. Cornejo doubled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off R. Morgan in the 2nd, struck out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, struck out in the 9th, singled in the 11th and singled in the 13th.
Thus far this season Cornejo has hit .295 with 12 home runs, 66 RBIs and scored 100 times. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | SS Aneudy Reyes | ruptured Achilles tendon | 2 months | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 58-104, .358 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 53.0 GB | | Record at home | 30-52, .366 PCT | | Record on the road | 29-52, .358 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-5, .286 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 13-20, .394 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 20-31, .392 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 38-73, .342 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 11-16, .407 PCT | | Record in May | 5-23, .179 PCT | | Record in June | 11-17, .393 PCT | | Record in July | 10-14, .417 PCT | | Record in August | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in September | 8-19, .296 PCT |
